Tito Salomoni (1928 -1989) Italian surrealist painter.
Salomoni won numerous awards, including a Silver Medal from Unesco, First Place Award from Phi Delta Kappa, and the coveted Letter of Science in the Arts from the Italian Art Academy. He is also listed in Arte Italiano Per Ii Mondo (Italian Art in The World). Recently his art has appeared on many international magazine covers, inside story illustrations, and science fiction book covers.
Salomoni was born in Ferrara, Italy in 1928 and began painting surrealist works in 1968. During his career he held individual exhibitions throughout Italy, as well as the United States and France.
Defined as a surrealist by French critics, he portrayed "spaces, environments, characters" as silent witnesses of a hidden mystery, "behind the everyday appearances of things and men". References to De Chirico and Delvaux represented in his paintings signs of "an approximate start of thought and emotion" of an artist able to transmit through "sectioned and dislocated objects, taken outside of their everyday appearance", the "pleasure of rediscovering the world in the ultimate signs of its meaning". Salomoni modified "reality through dreams" and re-proposed the "dream as absolute reality" using the universality of the "Freudian unconscious".
