The Moorish style is a type of figure and visual trope in European decorative art, typical of Early Modern works, depicting a man of sub-Saharan African descent, usually wearing clothing that suggests high social status. Common examples of objects decorated in the Moorish style include sculpture, jewelry, and furniture. Typically, the sculpted figures carried something, such as candles or a tray. They were therefore an exotic and light variant of the "atlas" in architecture and decorative arts, especially popular during the Rococo period.
